PERMIAS stands for Persatuan Mahasiswa Indonesia di Amerika Serikat, which literally means Indonesian Student Association in United States. PERMIAS is a non-profit organization whose members are Indonesian students who are studying here in the states. There are PERMIAS in almost every big city in United States, especially in a city where there is good university. Being in Columbus, a city where The Ohio State University located (currently the second largest university in USA), PERMIAS Columbus has developed fast in terms of the amount of its members and activities. From about one hundred members in the early 1980s, it has grown into more than thousands members in 2004. PERMIAS Columbus is one of the largest organizations of international students in the Ohio State University. We are also known as the most active PERMIAS in Midwest. During these years, PERMIAS have held some annual large events, such as: Indonesian Night, Columbus Cup, Indonesian/Spring Festival, politic discussion, Annual Mobile Consular and Ski Trip. In addition to those events, PERMIAS Columbus also has some regularly scheduled activities like general meeting, dance party, PERMIAS Olympics, and Indonesian coffeehouse. All these events and activities can only be made possible by the efforts of former officers of PERMIAS Columbus and the participation of Indonesian students in Columbus. |
